Gerard Piqué will miss the start of the season in La Liga after being banned for four matches for his outburst in the second leg of the Spanish Super Cup final.

The Barcelona defender was shown a straight red after clashing with an assistant referee during his side’s 1-1 draw with Athletic Bilbao, which gave Athletic the first title of the new campaign, 5-1 on aggregate. He apologised for his dissent afterwards, although he denied insulting the official.
